When I first began work on the 1990 Ford Bronco XLT, I was immediately convinced that I should outfit it with an upgraded set of 32” 1150R15 aggressive treads and prime the truck in black. I will describe some of the steps I took, list the materials used, and show pictures of the progress.
The Bronco is a 5.0L, 8 cylinder XLT with rear air shocks and already had the front bar in place and running boards. I bought this from my father, and it had been sitting unused for a couple of years, but he did keep it in decent shape. The engine is pretty sound and required little work thus far. The body only needed a little touch-up around the rear tire wells and near the rear bumper.
It had a white and blue paint job with pin stripes, and the top was very dry and weathered but not cracked. I ended up cutting off the rear flaps which my Dad had on it to protect the boat as he pulled it. I first began painting the hood bug shield flat black, as the original color was red and it was an eyesore. I finished up the left rear wheel well, sanding the bondo and feathering the high points. I moved to the right rear tire well and ran into a slight problem with rot. I used steel strapping on the inside, attaching it with bondo and then applying more body putty to the exterior. With a air power sander, I finished the wheel well.
